Leaving the mountainous region of Sapa, its tourists and rainy weather, we continued our hitchhiking trip to another mountainous region, in the provinces of Hà Giang and Cao Bang, located in the North-East of Vietnam, on the border with China. On the spot, we did not only find good weather and few tourists; we also found much more authentic, captivating and impressive green landscapes!
A glimpse of the nice roads of the World
As soon as we crossed the Greek border, we asked what else we could visit except ancient Greek sites and the famous Greek islands: we were then strongly recommended Meteora, those monasteries upstanding on top of very steep rocky cliffs… And even if we had already visited several Orthodox monasteries in Serbia and Kosovo, we let ourselves be tempted by those completely unusual Greek monasteries!
Travelling through the south of Albania, towards Greece, we discovered what locals here call the “Albanian Riviera”: a beautiful coast, where mountains meet the Adriatic Sea, offering unique panoramas with endlessly azure blue waters and cliffs hiding some secret white sandy beaches…
